Andrzej Filipowicz | Indepedence Sail. Calendars 2019

This is a painter’s journey, the road of which is set by the perfect geometry of the „Dar Młodzieży” sailing ship, functional beauty, led by the wind on the high seas. At the end of May 2018, it has its beginning, its geography in Gdynia on the Polish Baltic, but in the final, it leads into the sun to Panama, the warm world where northern and southern America meet.

They invite for a journey in the „Rejs” artistic project – moments reflected on 12 historical mission points. The presented works are a painter’s interpretation of the Independence Cruise sailing journey. It is a way of filling the painting space with the author’s delight and the impressionistic feelings of the experimenting explorer.

The distinctive elements of this painting are geometry and rhythm of the places which the sailing ship visits during its cruise around the world. The main part is played by color and the composition rhythm, which connotes with grand music. Rhythm – Movement – Time. Getting rid of objectiveness has also occurred on these paintings during the creative process slowly. Some of the forms of objects, figures and elements of the landscape have become more and more figure, deprived of details, have taken on the character of flat stains. Often intense and with a trembling outline.

The most interesting things happen when we become aware of the mission of the symbol of the history of the Polish sea as performed by the „Dar Młodzieży” sailing ship. This event can be classified as perfect. And it inspires admiration and respect for the charm of the idea. It is full of beautiful combinations of symbolic feats, sometimes even extreme solutions of difficult situations, simultaneously completed with an incredible lightness. The painting inspirations from this journey, in which looking closely at the regularity of the cooperation in the borderland of man, nature and technology, focusing on its chosen fragments and transferring them to the canvas. Using real elements, taking into consideration the contemporary aesthetics.

This unusual theme of the Cruise around the world is breathtaking, which gives an opportunity to travel to the inside of historical canvas, deep inside and beyond the future that we know. And this, of course, is in a sense powered by energy in the creative process in which my paintings are painted.
